John Marshall Library NAIOP Award of Excellence

BGA is pleased to announce that the Fairfax County John Marshall Library in Alexandria, Virginia has received an Award of Excellence from the Northern Virginia Chapter of NAIOP under the Capital Improvements of Institutional Buildings category. The library, originally constructed in 1975, serves the Rose Hill neighborhood as a vital resource, providing access to information, meeting spaces, and venues for community events. Bowie Gridley Architects’ design for the renovation transformed the exterior of the building by creating a new visitor entrance and exposing the dramatic interior spaces. The renovated building includes improved collections and seating areas, quiet and group study rooms, and expanded staff workspaces. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems were updated to modern standards and all interior room finishes and furnishings were provided by BGA. The design features a light-filled interior spine that connects the main functions of the building, establishing a modern and welcoming feel along the street. The project was designed to achieve USGBC LEED Silver certification.
