George School Athletic Center Expansion Gets Go-Ahead

Monday, August 30th, 2010

George School, a Quaker Independent Secondary School located in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania has selected Bowie Gridley Architects to plan and design its new and upgraded sports facilities.  The project which is slated for completion in phases, will add a new three-court practice gym and a two-court performance gym, a fitness center, aerobics and wrestling practice and performance space.   BGA will provide plans for the renovation of an existing 25 meter indoor swimming pool and for the adaptive reuse of an existing gym into locker rooms, offices, training rooms, and conference spaces.  The new sports facility will be designed to achieve LEED Silver Level Certification.

The new facilities will be situated diagonally across the street from the Quaker Meeting House, a focal point on the school’s campus and directly across the street from the new Mollie Dodd Anderson Library,  a new facility designed by BGA and completed in 2009 .

Phasing of the construction will allow the School to continue operations of the athletic programs throughout the project.
