Associate Dennis Findley Reappointed to the VA Board of People with Disabilities

Governor Bob McDonnell (R) has reappointed BGA Associate and Senior Project Architect Dennis Findley, AIA to the Board of People with Disabilities for a new four-year term. Findley was first appointed to the board in 2009 by then Gov. Tim Kaine (D).

The VBPD advises the state legislature and the governor’s office on all areas related to the needs, education and care of children and adults with disabilities in the Commonwealth. Findley has served the board on the ‘Community Integration’ and ‘Advocacy and Outreach’ committees. During his next tenure, the board will be involved in shaping Virginia’s transition from institutional based care for severely disabled adults to community based care. Dennis Findley is a long-time resident of McLean, Virginia.

GWU Baseball Facilities Garner Community Praise

In the final stages of construction, the George Washington University’s new Barcroft baseball facilities have been widely lauded by student athletes and faculty. A recent series of videos on GWU’s website captured community feedback on the facility, including “thumbs up” comments from team players.

The new 450-seat stadium for the University’s NCAA Division I (Atlantic 10 Conference) baseball program will replace aging facilities at Barcroft Park in Arlington, Virginia. Bowie Gridley Architects, designed the new facilities in association with DLR Group. Included are a synthetic turf field and bullpens (with clay mounds), grandstand, press box with state-of-the-art technology, concessions, dugouts, spectator gathering and picnic areas, and expanded parking. A future locker room and training facility is also planned. The facilities will be shared with local youth baseball leagues and will be the premier youth baseball venue in Arlington County.

St. John’s Church Lafayette Square Selects BGA for Parish House Study

St. John’s Church Lafayette Square has selected Bowie Gridley Architects to proceed with the development of planning concepts for the renovation of its historic Parish House, located at 1525 H Street NW in Washington, DC. The concept design will include space for meeting, classroom, and administrative uses, as well as improved building accessibility and life safety.

In 2008, BGA, a firm specializing in projects of community significance, prepared plans for the renovation of the historic “Church of the Presidents.”

BGA to Exhibit at National TABS Conference

Bowie Gridley Architects will showcase the firm’s recent work at The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS) annual conference to be held November 29-December 2 in Washington, DC. BGA Principals will be present throughout the conference to share insight on BGA’s expertise in the design of independent school facilities, including recent work at The George School, Mercersburg Academy and St. Anne’s Belfield School.

The conference will be at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. Boarding school presidents, business officers and representatives will come from around the country to share with and learn from each other.
