Richard S. Salopek, AIA, Principal, presented the McLearen Road Academy project to the DC AIA Committee on Architecture for Education “On the Boards” Social Event, held November 12, 2014  at the District Architecture Center.  The focus of the presentations was work related to the design of learning environments designed by DC firms.  Presentations were in the “Pecha Kucha 20 x 20” style, concise presentations limited to 20 seconds each for 20 images.

As Project Manager of the McLearen Road Academy project, Salopek discussed the new campus for a Pre-K-12 private co-ed day school in Fairfax County, which is currently under construction.  Designed sustainably, the new 325,000 sf facility will feature an Early Childhood Center and School for grades K-12, with separate entries and play spaces for both schools.  The school’s curriculum is highly progressive, necessitating the incorporation of the latest trends in the design for 21st Century Learning in a manner that is consistent with the school’s mission and culture.
