With nearly 25 years of professional experience, Sang serves as project architect on many of BGA’s most prominent institutional projects, both as the lead architect and as a co-collaborator on teams that require several project architects. Sang uses his many years of experience on a diverse collection of projects to meld design and technical requirements into a cohesive piece of architecture that is attractive, functional and well-built. His responsibilities include coordinating and managing the work of BGA’s engineering consultants and the work of the BGA team. Sang possesses both excellent design and technical skills, so he is able to be fully engaged in projects from conceptual design through completion of construction documents. This continuity of experience and leadership is a hallmark of BGA’s practice.

Heather is a long time BGA employee, having begun her professional career with BGA upon graduation from Architecture School and rising to the level of Project Architect and Associate. She has been a key lead architect or supporting architect on numerous K-12 educational projects for lower, middle and high schools, as well as community recreation centers, libraries, and university sports projects. Heather is one of BGA’s most versatile architects. She contributes at all levels of project development, from master planning through design, documentation, and construction administration.

A Revit/BIM master with over 15 years’ experience as an architect, Sarah is both a leader and mentor to BGA’s entire studio of architects. Sarah leads and teaches the office’s Revit BIM skills seminars and manages the firm’s BIM standards. She actively seeks knowledge on the latest best practices in BIM implementation by participating in local user forums. She gave a seminar on BIM at VSAIA’s Architecture Exchange East Conference. Sarah also has a strong portfolio of K-12 educational clients, both private and public. In her free time Sarah stays busy as a mother of two and a self-proclaimed ‘soccer mom’ – she’s the one who plays! She also enjoys designing her own clothes and even designed her own wedding dress!

He has served as the lead designer on a wide range of complex educational, cultural and civic projects throughout the U.S. and abroad. Pavel guides project teams through all phases of the design process to marry exceptional architectural design and high-performing technical building solutions. His expertise spans both renovation and new construction projects. In addition, as an exceptional architectural renderer, he has contributed his artistic talents and visualization skills to many projects.

Over his 35+ years as an architect, Robert has assumed key leadership roles executing educational, cultural, and civic projects throughout the US. He has specialized experience working with higher education and institutional clients to renovate, expand, and/or augment existing campus facilities to meet their evolving needs, and has been a featured speaker at SCUP symposiums. He has also worked with federal government agencies such as the Department of Defense and Social Security Administration. Robert started his career at a nationally recognized theater design firm, participating in design studies of numerous Broadway theaters. Along with his passion for Architecture and problem-solving, Robert is also a classically-trained pianist, and has enjoyed participating in a variety of vocal musical ensembles over his career.

Karen has played an integral role in the firm’s financial and business management during her more than 30 year tenure at Bowie Gridley. In addition to her accounting responsibilities, she is the firm’s professional liability and contracts coordinator. She works with all senior management staff to manage the business side of the practice, and also oversees the firm’s human resources staff and payroll/benefits programs. Karen is an avid supporter of the Washington Architectural Foundation’s Architecture in Schools program and is a member of Beta Pi Mu, the International Library & Information Studies Honor Society. She also serves as co-chair of her community’s grounds and landscape committee and she enjoys reading and travel.

Liem has served as the firm’s Director of Information Technology for over 20 years, having previously served as a project architect. He oversees all of the firm’s IT and communication platforms and systems, with special focus on keeping BGA at the forefront of security and data protection, software and hardware selection, and data storage. Being a licensed architect has given him a unique and important perspective. Liem understands how architects work and think, and he has been able to apply this knowledge to ensure that all BGA staff are being supported with exceptional technology that allows us to provide the very best service to our clients.

David Marks is one of BGA’s most experienced, knowledgeable architects. He has served as the lead project architect on many of the firm’s largest projects. He is adept at solving complex building design challenges, applying a rigorous and disciplined approach that seeks to create high quality architecture that is also long-lasting and high-performing. He has applied this expertise to renovation/addition and new construction projects for university, K-12 public school, and private school clients. David’s expertise includes building envelope moisture/thermal management design, deep knowledge of various building/life safety codes, and aquatic facility design. Everyone in the firm benefits from this expertise through David’s frequent participation in BGA’s Peer Review QA/QC processes.

Elise Robinson is one of BGA’s most experienced and knowledgeable educational facilities designers. Over her 20+ year career, she has led numerous building design and campus master planning projects for public, charter, and independent schools and universities throughout the United States. She has deep experience in the range of building types common to academic institutions: teaching spaces, libraries, science and arts, sports, and dormitories. Her recent work has focused on 21st Century learning environments. She is adept at managing the many complex parameters that have become a normal part of today’s highly collaborative design processes.
